A Big Tex 35SA should not be judged against a Diamond C LPX, and a Big Tex 14GN should not be compared with a 40,000-pound FMAX312. Where Big Tex Still Makes Sense

Big Tex isn’t a bad brand. That’s worth saying plainly.

Big Tex offers a broad lineup, a large dealer network, familiar construction, and competitive pricing. For homeowners and occasional users, the Big Tex 30SA and 35SA are straightforward choices. The 30SA is a 60-inch-wide trailer offered in 8- and 10-foot lengths, while the 35SA is 77 inches wide and offered in 10-, 12-, and 14-foot lengths. Big Tex also offers capable tandem utility, car-hauler, dump, tilt, equipment, and gooseneck models. Confirm the truck’s ratings and the trailer’s loaded tongue or pin weight before moving from a lighter single-wheel trailer to a tandem-dual or 30,000-to-40,000-pound model.

What Buyers at Spencer Trailers Tell Us

We hear this pretty often: someone bought a lower-priced trailer a few years back, used it harder than expected, and now they’re shopping for a more purpose-built replacement. That does not always mean the first trailer failed. More often, the owner learned which details mattered through experience.

Maybe the original ramps were too narrow for a compact track loader. Maybe the dovetail dragged on uneven jobsites. Maybe the trailer did not have enough payload after adding attachments and buckets. Maybe the owner wanted 17.5-inch tires, a hydraulic jack, disc brakes, a winch, closer crossmember spacing, or a loading system that one person could operate more easily. Those are configuration lessons, not just brand lessons.

Indiana weather adds another layer. Winter road salt, spring mud, fertilizer, gravel, standing water, and summer heat are hard on steel, wiring, brakes, suspension hardware, wood flooring, and wheel bearings. Even the best coating needs washing and touch-up maintenance. Brakes need inspection. Lug nuts need to be re-torqued. A 25,900-pound trailer is not automatically capable of carrying 25,900 pounds of cargo; its available payload is the certified GVWR minus the trailer’s actual empty weight and installed equipment.

When comparing two trailers on the lot, ask for the VIN-specific weight and certification label. Measure the usable deck, dovetail, ramp width, deck height, fender clearance, and approach angle. Verify axle ratings, tire load ranges, brake type, coupler rating, jack capacity, crossmember spacing, flooring, spare-tire provision, warranty start date, and included options. Two trailers with the same advertised GVWR can have significantly different empty weights and payload capacities.
